What Is Platlet-Rich Plasma (PRP)?
PRP is plasma filled with rich platelets that have been taken from your own blood. After drawing a quick sample, your blood is spun and purified in a device called a centrifuge. Then, plasma is transferred to another tube and spun again to create a platelet-rich concentrate. A licensed provider then injects the PRP into the treatment site. At our med spa, we use microneedling technology to administer PRP below the epidermis — roughly 2 to 3 mm below the superficial level of your skin.
How PRP for Hair Loss Works
PRP for hair loss works by injecting your platelet-rich plasma into areas of the scalp affected by hair loss; this encourages natural regrowth and hair follicle rejuvenation. The platelets in the PRP activate special molecules called growth factors. These growth factors play a crucial role in improving blood supply to the follicles and strengthening the hair shaft, leading to healthier, thicker hair.
Many patients who undergo PRP hair restoration notice natural regrowth and greater fullness. This is without the use of medication or transplants. The microneedling application also increases circulation to the treatment sites; due to the invisible micro-injuries the needle creates, your body provides more nutrient-rich blood to the treatment sites as a healing response.
